Common Threats To Your E-Cigarette & How To Avoid Them

No matter how much we try to protect our electronic cigarettes, these devices are bound to face plenty of hazards in the real world, thanks to their electronic make-up. To help customers prepare their vape gear from unexpected hiccups, we have outlined the most common threats to electronic cigarettes and provided some helpful tips on how to combat the elements and proactively care for your favorite devices.

Potential Dangers To Your E-Cigarette

Moisture

Moisture

Like most electronic devices, moisture often means disaster. In most cases, enough moisture will have you heading to the store for a replacement.

Any moisture or liquid that makes contact with the circuitry of your device and / or batteries will result in short circuiting (or shorting). This will cause your device to malfunction and may cause your batteries to vent, in some cases.

Heat

Heat

Even though kicking back and puffing on an e-cig is one of the best ways to spend a beautiful summer day outside, extreme heat can do a lot of damage to a MOD or PV. Heat can cause your battery to drain faster than normal, and may cause the device to stop working. Heat can damage interior components as well, causing mechanical parts to swell, bulge, melt, and in some cases spark. If you feel your device getting hot to the touch, take a break from vaping for at least 30 minutes.
Extreme Cold

Extreme Cold

Hate to break it to you, but your battery isn’t safe in extreme cold either. The extreme cold can shorten battery life as well. Since electronic cigarettes use lithium-ion batteries, they perform at their best (and drain much slower) when kept between 14°F and 86°F.

Preventative Tips To Care For Your Vape

Keep your E-Cig in a Temperature-Controlled Environment

Keep your E-Cig in a Temperature-Controlled Environment

This doesn’t mean you need to keep your vape device under lock and key, like your dad does for his cigars, but it does mean you should at least bring your e-cigs inside. Don’t just throw it in your glove box overnight or leave it on your front seat on a hot summer day. Indoors, steer clear of leaving your devices near windows, in the kitchen and or on the breezeway.

We recommend storing your e-cig batteries in silicone sleeves or a plastic case. It’s very important users NEVER store batteries in their pocket, next to or on any metal or conductive materials. Additionally, be sure to store your batteries in a cool, dry area.

Buy Compatible Components

Buy Compatible Components

There’s no need to deprive yourself of the fun associated with buying new parts, but be sure your new components are compatible with your e-cig. For example, it may be tempting to buy the cheaper charger, but incompatible chargers are one of the main causes of electronic cigarette fires. Being aware of this is one of the best ways to prevent damage to your e-cigs.
Clean Your Device

Clean Your Device

We can’t stress this enough. Cleaning your e-cig can prevent major issues down the road. Be sure to clean both your tank and device and replace the coils / atomizer heads when needed. When cleaning the battery contact terminals or the 510 connection of a mod, you may use isopropyl alcohol. However, it is best to use 99% isopropyl as there is virtually no water content present. Allow the battery contact terminals and the 510 connect to dry before re-installing the battery and operating the device.
Taking good care of your electronic cigarettes may seem inconvenient at first, but at the end of the day, the extra effort will save money, keep you safe, and improve the longevity of your favorite devices!
